Pause and Pine
02:35
|
|||
While you're working words reflecting
Heavy regret in the setting sun
Don't understand don't want to know why
But all those thoughts they plague your mind
Just keep on truckin’ like it was nothing
Try not to care, don't ever cry
Don't pause and pine girl, so full of sorrow
What's in the past, can't be redone
Just mind your conscience, look to tomorrow
Don't pause to pine, what's done is done
Don't look down yonder, what others gather
Cause it ain't yours, no - it's wrong to pine
Just stay the course and pray to God girl
And you will prosper, on down the line
One day was lonesome and so you paused
Reflecting back on all you've lost
Forgot your blessings you sat and pined
Robbing that day of joy divine

Days Gone By
03:10
|
|||
Back in the day when our pa's forked hay
we all lived by a moral code
down a dirt road great neighbors and Friends
Shaking hands time and again
Well we'd all come around To help break ground
Or relocate a barn or two
Rural population pulling together
Wouldn't work without me and you
Oooh the days gone by
hand-shakes used to mean something
Now we all just high five, and work D alone
Not side by side
Depending on each other
When I pass someone on the road not everybody waves
There's dust on the knob at the community Hall
Family seem to scatter like the wind
It used to be the hub, the kids would run and play
But now the city’s drawing them in
There used to be a time when we all had a dime
To share over a coffee or tea
Who are we working for and what is it all about
When there's no time for you or for me
CHORUS
Now the schools no more, like the cafe and the store
Just a post office box by the road
Most hit the trail when the pay got frail
Just a few left carryin’ the load
A quarter or two was once enough to do
But it won't pay the bills anymore
Sections by the dozen, tractors always humming
So the banker don't come banging on the door

Shiloh Road
03:44
|
|||
It's a dark damp night in my neck of the woods
Stirring under my covered porch hoping the road don't flood
Crisp air’s moving up my sleeves blowing thru the trees
Listen leaves are shimmering then the jingle of my keys
I just can't go inside kicking at the dirt
Slam that truck door I’m totally immersed
Let's go drive down Shiloh Road
The engines roaring jump right in
Cast a shadow full moon glow
Where I drive to, I’ve never been
(And without you, it's all a sin)
I'm driving now but you’re not in
Alone I think what’s never been
I feel this curve ‘cause driving’s in my blood
Shift the stick that engine’s running good
I just can't take ‘er slow even when it’s dark
The rain is coming down heavy as my heart heart
CHORUS
It’s a dark damp night stirring me alive
Craving behind the wheel the glare of the white line
Stars no longer intertwine I just need to drive
Gull throttle therapy without you I’m dying
I just can't walk away never knowing why
Slam that truck door how long will I pine
CHORUS

Oklahoma Between

|

OKLAHOMA BETWEEN
There's just you and then there's me with Oklahoma between
elementary we should get a little closer
Listen here, my hands held out, let me explain what it's about
I know you’re hurting, and life shouldn’t be this hard
So let's meet in Oklahoma and we’ll talk it through some more
I pray that you'll be coming I’m pacing ‘cross the floor (I’ve near worn out the floor)
Oh my darling, my sweet darling, There's just you and there's me
And wild horses in Oklahoma between
Don't jumble up those moving parts keep it simple with the heart
My sweet darling, I know, you’re mostly careful
Please just call a spade a spade, don't get tangled in a snag
That web of wire, will tear us apart
CHORUS
Now my darling, it’s time to say, how I see this might play
My sweet darling you know, our love ain't lacking
When the storms of life sweep through it’ll still be me and you
Together running as wild horses through the fields
Through the fields of Oklahoma over you, my love will pour
I pray we’ll be there always where we’ll live forever more
Oh my darling, my sweet darling, there's just you and there's me
And wild horses in Oklahoma between
Ooooh, in Oklahoma we’re wild horses running free

Ranchin
03:12
|
|||
Ranchers have their work cut out daily grind that never stops
mouth's to feed and crops to cut around they go again
market flux and weather shocks breakdowns their equipment stops
Yearling splits get heated boy it's time to make amends
Then we head in for a feed a real cowboy steel
Triple AAA fresh off the hay is grilled up for a meal
We inoculate and castrate Roll out large round bales
We feed them corn, distillers grain Fix fences that have failed
When the day is over and the year is through
All we can do is hope and pray for a good pay-cheque or two
Well the first calf might be coming so we take to humming
A cowboy tune of ranchin’ life out on Alberta plains
Then to reading agri news scanning tractors green and blue
We check out online auctions and then accidentally snooze
when the dinner’s over the remnants go to Rover
A cup of joe, away we go grease up that PTO
CHORUS
Trailin cattle's complicated rotating and anticipating
Banking on the older one’s who know the way back home
Little one’s fall to the back While Momma’s eager on the track
It’s okay as long as they pair up when they’re back home
BRIDGE
It ain’t too long until they’re bawlin’ for three days of more
Calves’ a thirstin’, utters burstin’, a pain she can’t ignore

Sharing of Eachother
02:31
|
|||
Sometimes when I’m feeling blue, I toss and turn without a clue
Can’t figure out what’s nagging me inside
But then I watch a warm embrace, a smile goes across my face
My mind see’s you a smilin’ back at me
If we shared of each other once more
If you’d walk me ‘cross the floor
Hand-in-hand together we would live out our days
Sharing of each other all the more
Fleeting dreams in the day, a tremor in the night
I dare not even whisper But babe it sure sounds right
Your name on my lips, and my name on yours
I’d bask in our life, it’d be a pure delight
We should share of each other once more
You should waltz me ‘cross the floor
Hand-in-hand together we should live out our days
Sharing of each other all the more
Now listen honey, closely Cause I dont wanna say
I love you with such desperation; I know it won’t go away
So honey I’ll just simply say, you’re sweet as pie to me
You’re my sun and the moon and the stars up above
You’re the birds singing in the trees

That Time of Year
03:02
|
|||
Fresh snow in the mountains Fresh snow in the fields
Melting through Alberta F It’s that time of year
Hard winter’s forgotten, and with any luck
We’ll be busy under blue Alberta skys again
It’s that time of year in Alberta
We froze through short winter G days
It’s that time of year in Alberta
Soon we’ll be wishing the long days would stay
The wide fields are calling Straight roads on the map
Sub-alpine picnics, topped off with a nap
Seeding is starting, soon plants will pop up
We’ll be busy under blue Alberta sky’s again
It’s that time of year in Alberta
We froze through short winter days
It’s that time of year in Alberta
Soon we’ll be wishing the long days would stay
Instrumental
In a few short months we’ll go back to just surviving
So for now lets crack a drink, we’ll try not to think
About the cold, let’s do-si-do while the rodeo band plays on

Better as a Memory
02:17
|
|||
You’re better as a memory than in my daily grind
Spend my days up in the clouds ain't healthy for the mind
You're best kept as a memory Im lad that you’ve moved on
My mule was packed and full of tack we know my trail is long
That country girl is nothing but a heartbreaker
Nothing but a heart taker she’s on my mind (again)
That country girl is gone to rope some other willing soul and
… she’s better as a memory
You’re still the sweetest memory mind drifts on to you
I rope my calves and chew my chew pretend your heart was true
But with all that came so much hurt I ne’er could conceive
All that I had thought of you, I n'er should believed
